Precious Little Baby Girl...

It’s funny how life is.  Something good always happens to soften the blow of whatever bad thing has come to pass.  We haven’t blogged much lately.  In fact, we didn’t have many photo sessions through the holidays and we didn’t blog about the ones we did have.  The fact is that we’ve been busy…with life, with other jobs and with just trying to keep up.  We love blogging and we really LOVE taking photos, but let’s just say our hearts haven’t been in it for awhile…until Hailey came along that is!

Hailey is my new granddaughter.   Yes, we have another girl in the family.  And yes, I think the girls now just might be outnumbering the boys!!  My how life has turned around for me since girls started joining our family.  It’s fun…really fun…to have big girls and little ones in the family.

Tina and I took these photos of Hailey and her proud mommy and daddy when she was just 10 days old.  She was a perfect angel and slept through almost the whole session, which is what we always hope for but don’t always get.  When she woke up, it was pretty easy to get her back to sleep and we even changed her clothes a few times without much problem.  Everyone who sees her or sees a picture of her comments on how beautiful her mouth is.   If you think it looks like we put lipstick on her or altered the photos with color, I can tell you we did not!  Her mouth is just truly a perfect little rosebud!

I’m really sad that my mom isn’t here to hold her newest great granddaugher.  I don’t know anyone who loves babies more than my mom.   I believe she’s looking down from Heaven though and sprinkling angel dust on this precious new baby.  I also know she loves what she sees. 

As for Hailey, you can be sure she’ll be the subject of more blogs as she grows and as we have more photo sessions with her. 

This isn't Hailey...it's Pearl in Hailey's crib.  Pearl was Tiffany's first baby and she's still trying to figure out how she got ousted from being the head princess by this new little creature. 
Luckily, she doesn't seem to have a jealous bone in her body. 
She just wants to be a baby too!

Mia's Family

We first wrote about Mia and her awesome family a few weeks ago.  Mia is a beautiful five-year old girl who is going through the fight of her life right now as she battles brain cancer.   You can read about the journey on her blog at Human Tribe Project.

A few of the things you will learn there are that Mia is a fighter; that she has two awesome parents who are trying to juggle family life with two other children who need them too and who are suffering along with their child; that she has an extended family who will do whatever it takes to keep things going and make it possible for someone to be with Mia at all times--and that she now has an extended blog family on Human Tribe Project who are all praying, offering words of encouragement and strength, helping the family in any way they can and supporting them financially by purchasing Tribe Tags.

That is why Human Tribe Project was created.  There is a need it fills during the time of a devastating illness or crisis.  For those of us on the “outside” there is some comfort in knowing some of what is going on and in finding direction for our prayers.  Still, we feel helpless.  For those on the “inside” there is the moment-by-moment pain of watching this unfold.  We hope there are at least some moments of joy and celebrate hearing about things like a big, strong Daddy having his nails painted lavender by his child…and leaving the polish on.  And we hear about some of the moments that bring tears to our eyes and make us sad.  Unless we’ve been through it, we still don’t know…BUT we pray! We pray for whatever it is they need and then some.

This is Mia’s Family…or the Foutz side of it anyway.  They are there to lift each other up and to deal with the hardest moments and they are amazing.  A year is a long time, but I believe they will get through it…one day at a time!  I believe they will have a healthy, beautiful daughter in the end.  In the meantime, I hope and I pray…and I give thanks that they have each other.  And I am thankful we had an hour or so one Sunday evening to capture not just Mia, but all of them…looking like any other family for a little while!

 

I might add here that this family is pretty blessed in the “cute kids” department.   I think you’ll agree!

Perspective

This is my husband giving a bottle to his tiny little granddaughter for the first time.  He was nervous but he looks like a natural with those big strong arms cradling this tiny little person that he already loved so much.   I love to look at how tiny she was in his arms and how huge that little bottle was next to her.   In photos you can’t always tell how large or small something is unless you have another object to show the perspective.  How precious it is to have this memory to recall through the photograph.

Yesterday Lucy tap danced on a big stage at the State Fair!  This tiny and precious newborn has grown up before our very eyes, and we don't know where the time has gone!  It's scary and wonderful!  Scary... because we will blink our eyes and this darling four-year old will be wearing makeup for real, graduating, getting married or doing who knows what.  Wonderful...because we get to watch it happen and because we have photos we can look back on to help us remember some of the details!  Some details like how much she looks like her mom right now and how she's suddenly so into posing!

A Picture is Worth A Thousand Words

Have you ever taken a picture either intentionally or coincidentally and been so thankful you timed it so perfectly?  THIS is one of the things we love MOST about photography!  The ability to capture a moment in time with an image that will be ours forever inspires us, motivates us, and keeps us coming back to the lens over and over again!  

I was full of pride and bursting with love as my son held my first grandchild in the NICU.  She was born early and weighed only 4 pounds and she was so tiny that holding her the first time was scary for me. This photo reminds me of those early days and all the feelings that came with her arrival.   I’m so glad I was there to snap the shutter on a very special moment, especially because she is now four years old and it is almost impossible to remember how small and helpless she was. 

We had a sleepover last night and I was reminded once again how quickly the time passes and those babies grow up before your very eyes!  I treasure each of those moments so much more than I did when I had my own children and all the BUSY-ness of life got in the way of enjoying the little things...

Introducing Beautiful Baby B!

In eager anticipation of this precious baby’s newborn photo session I began to ponder the special bond I feel with her mother. She is a co-worker, and a friend, but it feels like more than that. I realized for the first time in the 8+ years since I first met her that perhaps that special connection is because she reminds me of my best friend in high school. Earthy, but down to earth, sensible but funny, smart, determined, passionate about her beliefs, and not afraid to own her individuality. Then again, perhaps it’s because she could be my daughter, or because I share her mother’s enthusiasm for the joys that being a grandmother bring. Or maybe it’s because their journey from baby #1 to baby # 2 has been a long and winding road, and I’m just tickled pink that baby B is finally here! It seems like she “completes” them!

And then …. I realize it must be all of the above. That being said, we were absolutely thrilled and honored to meet the most beautiful, pink, healthy, and LOVED baby B on her one week birthday. And so, without further adieu... welcome to the world Baby B!
